Vista Customization: Ultimate Windows Tweaker 1.0 and StandaloneStack 1.0

After seeing how to get Vista functionally and looks in Windows XP, it is time to switch focus to Vista and see what we could do personalize it a little bit, just like we did a while back when we showed you how to get your Vista OS to look more like Windows 7.

The software applications I present to you today are Ultimate Windows Tweaker version 1.0, which allows you to perform about 130 tweaks in your Windows-based operating system, and StandaloneStack version 1.0, which allows you to modify the looks of your Vista OS by letting you add similarly looking stacks as in the recently updated Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5.6. And the best part is that both software applications are free, they will not cost you a thing.

As previously mentioned, with Ultimate Windows Tweaker you can perform about 130 tweaks. Since enumerating them all would take some time, we’ll just group these tweaks into categories: personalization; UAC; system and performance; security; Internet Explorer; network optimization; other options. A full, detailed list of tweaks is available here. Other bits and pieces you need to know about Ultimate Windows Tweaker: it runs with 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, it is portable (no installation required, so feel free to put it onto a portable storage device and take it with you), it has a simple user interface, and last but not least, some of the tweaks are already present in Vista, Ultimate Vista Tweaker simply brings them to light.

If you have seen the Mac OS X, liked its stacks and would like the same feature in Windows Vista, then StandaloneStack 1.0 can do this for you. It takes a bit of work to set up, but luckily enough the software comes with detailed instructions for you to use. Here is a quick presentation of what this software will do for you: assign a folder to a stack and then put it in the toolbar; when you click on it, it will come into view.

If you would like to get Ultimate Windows Tweaker 1.0, a download location is available here.
