Adults can use the Vine website or the Vine apps to access any vines they want. They’re adults and they’re free to watch anything they please.

Children can use the new Vine Kids app to access vines that are appropriate for their age. Vine Kids, available for download on Apple’s App Store, provides access to hand-selected videos that are appropriate for a young audience.

Vine Kids – Main Features
  • Very easy to use – since it is meant to be used by children, Vine Kids is an incredibly easy to use app. To see the next vine, swipe left or right. To hear quirky sounds, tap the screen.
  • Kid-friendly content – there are no vines that contain profanity or adult humor. Vine Kids features hand-selected videos that are meant for children. It features a curated list of six-second videos picked by the Vine team.
  • No account required – you don’t need an account to use Vine Kids.
  • Availability – unlike the Vine app, which is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, the Vine Kids app is available for iOS only. It is unclear if an Android or Windows Phone version will be released soon.

Why did Vine bother to create a kid-friendly version? The answer is as simple as they come: kids love to watch vines. Carolyn Penner, Head of Communications and Marketing at Vine, sheds more light on the subject:

“The idea came about during an office conversation in early January. One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine –– he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids. That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when we get to work on projects outside of our day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that.”
