If you are a Verizon Wireless subscriber, have a Palm Pre 2 mobile device, and you are a fan of the Skype VoIP and instant messaging application, then here’s some good news for you: Skype today announced that Skype Mobile is available for Palm Pre 2 on Verizon Wireless.

"We’re working constantly to bring Skype to as many mobile devices as possible, and we’re excited to announce that Skype is now available on the Palm Pre 2 from Verizon Wireless," announced Skype’s blogger-in-chief, Peter Parkes. "To get Skype on your Palm Pre 2 from Verizon Wireless, visit skype.com/m to find out how to get started," Parkes added.

As a Verizon Wireless customer, you can use Skype Mobile on your Palm Pre 2 to make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls, calls that do not cost a thing. You can also make calls to landline phones or international phone numbers. For these calls some charges apply – low ones. “All calls run on the largest and most reliable wireless network in the US, which helps to make sure that call quality is top-notch, and lets you use your favorite accessories, including Bluetooth headsets,” explained Parkes. Last but not least, you can use Skype Mobile on your Palm Pre 2 to send and receive unlimited instant messages to other Skype users.

It was back in February 2010 that Skype struck a deal with Verizon Wireless, which Skype described as the largest and most reliable mobile network in the US. As part of the deal Verizon Wireless would start offering Skype Mobile to its users; and that it did, starting with March 2010.

In related Skype news, the same Peter Parkes announced on Tuesday, the 22nd of February, that the number of concurrent Skype users has gone up to 29 million . “We’ve passed another milestone – at approximately 1800 GMT yesterday, there were more than 29 million people online on Skype. Another record broken, and an opportunity for us to remind you that you can get Skype in all sorts of places – on your computer, on your mobile and even on your TV,” said Parkes.
