According to a report published by Asymco an app production studio and an industry analysis advisory headquartered in Helsinki, each user of an iOS-powered device has downloaded more than 60 apps so far. Or to put it in other words, more than 60 apps have been downloaded for each iOS-powered device Apple sold. And Apple sold a lot of them. Just in Q1 2011, a record quarter for Apple from a financial perspective, the company sold 7.33 million iPads, 4.13 million Macs, and 16.24 million iPhones.
Getting back to the topic at hand, 60+ apps per iOS device is a considerable increase says Asymco, pointing out that back in 2008, all iPod Touch and iPhone users downloaded 10 apps each – 10 downloaded apps for each iPod Touch and iPhone sold.
You can read Asymco’s report and find out how the company came to the conclusion that each iOS user downloaded more than 60 apps here. I would love to be able to explain how the report’s author Horace Dediu came to this conclusion, but honestly I am not that good at math. I’ve never been good at math. So here’s the link to the report again. You can see the detailed explanation there.
