We have something new to add to the useful web services for the moviegoer category in our filling cabinet – HelloMovies. What does this site do and how can it help out the movie fan? To put it in a nutshell, the website will help you figure out which movie to watch. What the site does is help you filter the myriad of films into a more manageable list – a list of movies you will enjoy watching.

“Welcome to HelloMovies! It's a great place to find movies to watch. It's free to use, but you can sign up to...
  • Catalog your movies.
  • Get recommendations.
  • See what your friends are watching.
  • Customize your experience,” says on the site’s homepage.

You could compare HelloMovies to a search engine. You use a search engine to find relevant information about a topic, any topic. Well, you can use HelloMovies to search for a movie you would like to watch. You do this from the website’s sidebar – from said siebar you can select what genre of movie you would like to watch, when the movie was release, the language of the movie, and whether the movie is fun, offbeat, or powerful.

I selected Genre – Action, Tastes – Fun, and Release Year – Lat Year (2009). HelloMovies presented me with G.I. Joe, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Terminator Salvation. When I hovered the mouse over a search result, additional information about that movie was presented – the HelloMovies rating, IMDb rating and RottenTomatoes rating, and a brief synopsis of the movie. When I clicked a search result, even more information was presented – including trailer, cast and crew, reviews, and where to watch it online.

It should be mentioned that HelloMovies is not a new site. It went online back in 2007 – it is just now that we find out about it and recommend it to others.

In the Useful web services for the moviegoer category in our filling cabinet you will find these other entries:
  • RunPee – the site that tells you when it’s okay to make a mad dash for the toilet, safe in the knowledge that you won’t miss anything terribly interesting.
  • MovieStinger – the site that tells you if there are any additional scenes after the credits.
  • RunPee iPhone app – the iPhone-optimized version of the RunPee site, so you can easily know when to rush off to the bathroom.
