The development team behind Picasa Web Albums, the photo sharing site offered by Mountain View-based search engine giant Google, announced that it is now easier than ever to upload photos to Picasa Web Albums. Software Engineer Shuangfeng Li explained that the upload process has been improved and that thee limitation to upload 5 images at a time has been lifted. She also said that HD videos can be uploaded to Picasa Web Albums as well.

“We’ve made sharing and storing your images in Picasa Web Albums even easier by improving the image upload process,” said Li. “Now you’ll find a smoother upload flow, the five-at-a-time limitation has been removed, and you can upload HD video, too. We’re always working to improve Picasa Web Albums, please share your feedback in our forum. Happy uploading!”

In related Picasa Web Albums news, HTTPS has become the norm for Picasa Web Albums as of this month. If you want to protect the data you send and receive over the internet, then relying on a regular HTTP connection is not advisable. What you have to do is surf on a HTTPS encrypted connection. Surfing on HTTPS is advisable especially if you browse the web on a public network, because people with malicious intent cannot snoop on your data.

At the start of the year Picasa Web Albums rolled out the option to browse on a HTTPS connection. At the time HTTPS was not used by default, which mean you had to make sure to type https in the URL, mainly https://picasaweb.google.com instead of http://picasaweb.google.com. As of February 2011, Picasa Web Albums uses HTTPS by default, which means that picasaweb.google.com requests are automatically redirected to https://picasaweb.google.com.

So to sum it up, as of February 2011 you can use Picasa Web Albums safe in the knowledge that you are browsing on a secure, encrypted HTTPS connection, and you can more easily upload images to Picasa Web Albums (HD video too).
