Norwegian developer Opera Software announced today that it struck a deal with New Telephone Company (NTC), one of the largest mobile operators in Russia. As part of the deal Opera Software and NTC released a special service package called “Unlimited surfing with Opera Mini”. NTC subscriber who opt for this package have unlimited access to webpages, as long as they use Opera Mini.

The "Unlimited surfing with Opera Mini" package costs 240 Russian rubles per month, which is about €6 or about $8. Not much, considering that you have unlimited access to any website you want to visit. This is certainly good news for NTC subscribers, all 1.4 million of them from Vladivostok, Nakhodka, Ussuriysk, Artyom and other parts of the Primorie region.

“Low monthly fees plus the convenience of the Opera Mini browser make this service package popular among young and experienced mobile Internet users,” said Sales and Marketing Director with NTC, Tatiana Butskih. “Our users no longer need to worry about data consumption and costs when they read the latest news, check urgent messages and chat on forums while on the go.”

“For many Russian people their mobile phone is the primary or only way to access the Web," said Sales Director with Opera Software Russia, Mikhail Ilin. “We are pleased to announce that NTC subscribers in the Primorie region got the opportunity for unlimited access to webpages using a safe, fast and powerful web browser that works on almost any mobile phone.”

There are several things that make Opera Mini a great browser for the mobile. Here’s what I am talking about:
- Opera Mini offers a desktop-like browsing experience. Even though you are browsing from a mobile phone, you will feel like you are in front of your desktop computer.
- Data is routed through Opera’s severs before it reaches the user’s mobile phone. This is great because server-side compression technology reduces data consumption up to 90 percent. Opera Mini can thus load pages a lot faster.
- Opera Mini is a very popular browser (which to my mind is proof that it is a properly good browser). Opera Mini is used on more than 3000 mobile phone models by more than 62 million people around the world.
