On the 22nd of March Opera Software rolled out Opera Mobile 11 and Opera Mini 6 to the public, touting the fact that they come with some interesting new features, such as improved scrolling and zooming and a new share button lets users post whatever they want to Twitter, Facebook, vKontakte, or My Opera. You can read more on this topic here.

On the same date, Opera Software announced the Name the Band competition which gave Opera users the chance to win a cool Samsung Nexus S or a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The competition went something like this: in the press release that announced the launch of Opera Mobile 11 and Opera Mini 6, hints about 27 songs were included. Anyone who wanted to take part in the Name the Band competition had to correctly identify the 27 songs.

When it announced the competition, Opera Software said it is looking for “creativity and fun”. “We don't just want correct answers in pure text. Send us a blog post (on My Opera) with cover albums, tracklists to Spotify, Grooveshark or songs on YouTube you've identified. Anything goes - as long as it is a creative and fun submission,” said at the time Community Manager with Opera Software, Espen Andre Øverdahl.

Turns out that two contestants showed the creativity and fun opera wanted. The two contestants in question are Quark and Kristo. Quark came up with this (click the Get the music-ah button to get started, the button is at the top) and Kristo with this. The two lucky winners will get to pick between a Nexus S and a Galaxy Tab. Congratulations to them both.

Opera Software handed out $100 online gift certificates to 6 other contestants “for exceptional creative contributions.” These contestants will get to spend the money on the web shop of their choice.

"We would like to thank everyone for their hard work, judging has never been this hard. This competition sets the bar for upcoming contests, and we can't wait to see more creative madness in the future!" said Opera Software.
