The Mozilla Foundation has issued to new pieces of software this week: the first is Firefox 3.0.10, a security and stability update for the Firefox browser that comes about a week after the release of Firefox 3.0.9, which was also a security and stability update; the second piece of software that was released is Firefox 3.5 (formerly known as Firefox 3.1) Beta 4.

With the release of Firefox 3.0.10, Mozilla issued the same standard notification as they always do. “As part of Mozilla Corporation’s ongoing security and stability update process, Firefox 3.0.10 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. We strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.0.x, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu,” explained Firefox Launch Coordinator with the Mozilla Corporation, Samuel Sidler.

So what new bits does Firefox 3.0.10 brings to the table? According to Mozilla the update fixes “a major stability issue” (no details have been provided) and fixes a security issue (a critical security vulnerability that caused the browser to crash frequently for some users, especially those who used the HTML Validator add-on).

The Mozilla Foundation also released the 4th Beta of the upcoming Firefox 3.5 browser. “Firefox 3.5 (formerly known as Firefox 3.1) Beta 4 is now available for download. This milestone is focused on testing the core functionality provided by many new features and changes to the platform scheduled for Firefox 3.5. Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 is a public preview release intended for developer testing and community feedback. It includes many new features as well as improvements to performance, web compatibility, and speed. We recommend that you read the release notes and known issues before installing this beta,” explains Firefox Director, Mike Beltzner.

Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 comes with the following changes and enhancements:
- Support for 70 languages.
- Improved Private Browsing Mode.
- Enhanced stability and performance provided by the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine.
- Native support for JSON.
- Native support for web worker threads.
- Web standards are used for geolocation (Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 can thus provide Location Aware Browsing).
- Support for new web technologies.
- The option to restore closed Firefox windows, not just closed tabs.
