Twitter was proud to announce that it updated the Twitter for Android app. The app now comes with a new interface that was custom crafted for Android 4.0+ and purpose built to help you seamlessly navigate Twitter and easily connect with friends.

On Wednesday Twitter announced that it updated Twitter for Android, Twitter for iPhone, and mobile.twitter.com. Starting with Google’s Android mobile operating system, the newly released Twitter app comes with the following new bits and pieces.

Twitter for Android – New Features
  • New interface – the brand new look and feel reflects a native Android experience. You will see, among other things, that the timelines fill the screen as they are wider and taller, that there’s a flat navigation bar, and that quick actions can be accessed by tapping and holding on your device’s screen.
  • Swipe to navigate – just swipe on your device’s screen and you’ll be able to seamlessly navigate Twitter.
  • Suggestions – with the aim of helping you more easily connect with friends and join conversations, @username and #hashtag suggestions appear when you search or compose a tweet.
  • Launch apps from tweets – you can open apps right from a tweet by simply tapping a link. If you see a photo posted with Flickr, by tapping the link you can launch the Flickr app. If you don’t have the Flickr app, when you tap the link you will be able to install it.

Twitter for Android is available for download on Google’s Play Store.

Moving on, Twitter for iPhone and mobile.twitter.com have been updated as well. Just like the Android version, these display more types of content in expanded tweets, mainly photo galleries, apps and product listings. As mentioned above, when using Twitter for Android, a link is placed under content shared with other apps and tapping that link lets you install or launch the app. The same sort of functionality is available for iOS as well.

Twitter for iOS is available for download on Apple’s App Store.
