Twitter Wants to Make Sure You Don't Miss Anything

Some people are always connected to Twitter and never miss a thing. Other people take a more detached approach and only log in from time to time. If you fall in the latter category, I have some good news for you!

Twitter is aware that a lot can happen while you are away and wants to make sure that you don’t miss anything. That is why Twitter is introducing a new recap feature for the home timeline, feature that presents top tweets from when you were away.

Engagement and other factors are taken into consideration to detect top tweets from the accounts you follow. When you check into Twitter, these top tweets are presented on your home timeline, marked with a “while you were away” heading.

This means that tweets that you might have missed are conveniently presented on your timeline. People who spend a lot of time on twitter, will see fewer recaps; people who do not spend a lot of time on twitter, will see more recaps.

“Our goal is to help you keep up – or catch up – with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter. With a few improvements to the home timeline we think we can do a better job of delivering on that promise without compromising the real time nature of Twitter,” explained Paul Rosania, Group Product Manager, Twitter.

Earlier this week Twitter announced that it reached an agreement to acquire ZipDial, an India-based company that built a mobile platform that lets people follow and engage with content across all interfaces. By acquiring ZipDial, Twitter wants to make its platform available to more people around the world.

“Over the next several years, billions of people will come online for the first time in countries like Brazil, India and Indonesia. For many, their first online experience will be on a mobile device – but the cost of data may prevent them from experiencing the true power of the Internet. Twitter, in partnership with ZipDial, can make great content more accessible to everyone,” explained Christian Oestlien, Vice President, Product Management, Twitter.
