Twitter recently introduced Twitter Audio Card and touted the fact that this is “a new way for you to experience audio directly on Twitter.” You see, Twitter Audio Card helps you discover music and lets you play music directly in your timeline.

Listen to songs embedded into tweets, play streaming music with Twitter for iOS or Android, dock the Audio Card to browse Twitter while music plays in the background.

Twitter launched Audio Card in partnership with 3-rd party music streaming services. The first partner is SoundCloud, the online audio distribution platform that allows artists and other sound creators to upload and share their music. Listen to music, podcasts, and other audio content from multiple SoundCloud partners – a lengthy list is available on the official Twitter Blog.

Twitter Audio Card – Main Features

Audio streaming – all it takes is one tap to start the audio stream and listen to music, podcasts, and other audio content.

Full-screen art and info – view art and info in full-screen as you listen to music. Please note that the music playback will not stop if you minimize the window.

Dock the Audio Card – if you dock the Audio Card, the music will continue to play in the background. This means you’re free to use the Twitter app on your iOS or Android-powered smartphone.

As mentioned at the top, Twitter launched Audio Card in partnership with 3-rd party music streaming services and SoundCloud is the first partner. I bring this up again only to mention that you can listen to audio content though several @SoundCloud partners, like @DavidGuetta, who just released an exclusive remix to his 15+ million Twitter followers or @ChanceTheRapper, who debuted his new “Know Betta Blues” via Twitter.

“We’re just beginning to test the Audio Card and plan to make it available to more partners and creators in the future so that many more musical artists and creators will be able to share exclusive, in-the-moment audio to millions of listeners on Twitter,” said Richard Slatter, Product Manager at Twitter.
