The development team behind Tweetie has released version 2.1 of the Twitter client. The update, which is the first major update to Tweetie 2, is available free of charge for Tweetie 2.0 users. If you don’t have Tweetie 2.0, you will have to part with $2.99 to get it. But it is money well spent, because Tweetie 2.1 comes with some pretty interesting new features.

You will immediately notice that Tweetie 2.1 displays retweets in a new manner. You now see the original tweeter in your timeline, you do not see the person you’re following who retweeted. If you do not like this change, the Quote Tweet option is still available. Just select Quote Tweet instead of Retweet and you’ll see the old-style retweets.

Tweetie 2.1 provides support for Lists, a feature that Twitter announced a couple of months back. Here is how List Project Lead Nick Kallen described the feature at the time: “The idea is to allow people to curate lists of Twitter accounts. For example, you could create a list of the funniest Twitter accounts of all time, athletes, local businesses, friends, or any compilation that makes sense. Lists are public by default (but can be made private) and the lists you've created are linked from your profile. Other Twitter users can then subscribe to your lists. This means lists have the potential to be an important new discovery mechanism for great tweets and accounts.” With Tweetie 2.1 you can create, edit and view lists.

If you want, you can opt-in and use Tweetie 2.1’s new geotagging feature. When the geotagging feature is turned on, a red pin will appear in the corner of a tweet. Click the pin and you can see the geographical location from where the tweet was sent.

Last but not least, Tweetie 2.1 fixes a bug that caused the Twitter client to act unruly. Tweetie 2.0 would cause old update to reappear or old tweets to be repeatedly sent. Tweetie 2.1 is no longer plagued by such problems.
