Excited about Apple’s "one-day shopping event", a.k.a the company’s Black Friday sale? You really shouldn’t be! The whole thing is a huge disappointment and the reason is very straightforward: there are no discounts!

You can’t get a new iPhone, a new iPad, or some other iDevice for cheap, because Apple doesn’t offer any discounts. What it offers instead is gift cards. Buy a product that’s part of the “shopping event” and you get a gift card ranging in value from $25 up to $150.

If you buy an Apple TV, an Apple Watch Series 1, or an iPhone SE and you’ll get a $25 Apple Gift Card. Pricing for an Apple TV starts at $149, pricing for an Apple Watch Series 1 starts at $269, and pricing for the iPhone SE starts at $399.

If you’re going to get a new iPhone, you might as well get an iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, because you’ll get a $50 Apple Gift Card. Then again, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are more expensive. Pricing starts at $549 for the 6S and $649 for the 6S Plus.

You’ll also get a $50 Apple Gift Card if you buy an iPad Mini 4 or an iPad Air 2. Pricing for both these devices starts at $399. The more expensive iPad Pro (pricing starts at $599) will get you a more valuable $100 Apple Gift Card.

If you want to get the most expensive Apple Gift Card, which is valued at $150, you will have to get Mac computer. Like a $999 MacBook Air, a $1099 iMac, a $1299 MacBook or MacBook Pro 13-inch, a $1999 MacBook Pro 15-inch, or a $2999 Mac Pro.

Quick recap
  • $25 Apple Gift Card – Apple TV, Apple Watch Series 1, iPhone SE.
  • $50 Apple Gift Card – iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus.
  • $100 Apple Gift Card – iPad Pro.
  • $150 Apple Gift Card – MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13-inch and 15-inch, iMack, Mac Pro.
