There’s a new Microsoft Garage project that you should know about: Photo Story. Recently released as a Windows Phone app, Photo Story will help you turn photos into engaging short videos.

Just check out the video embedded below to see what I’m talking about.

But first, a look at Photo Story’s main features.

Photo Story – Main Features
  • Create short videos – the app can take photos and turn them into engaging short videos.
  • Auto-select photos – Photo Story uses machine learning and computer vision technology to automatically select the best photos. You get to pick a cover photo for your story and the app will pick the rest of the photos for the story.
  • Pick a theme – multiple themes are available, so choose one that best goes with the mood of your story.
  • Add music – pick a soundtrack to accompany your photos.
  • Edit the story – enter a custom title, change the theme, change the music soundtrack, add or remove photos.
  • Save & share – save your video to your mobile device; share your video via email or social media.
  • Use Cortana – tell Cortana to create a photo story and Microsoft’s intelligent personal assistant will do as instructed.
And now, the video I promised at the start of this article. Enjoy!

Go get the Photo Story app from the Microsoft Store.

In related news, I have to remind you that earlier this month Microsoft Garage introduced Send, a mobile app meant for brief, snappy communications with co-workers. It comes in handy if you want to send a quick, short note to a co-worker, but you don’t have that co-worker’s phone number, you don’t have an IM app on your work phone, and you don’t want to use Outlook.

The Garage is Microsoft’s 24-hour idea factory and haven for über geeks. To see what other projects they’re working on, go visit the official Garage website.
