Turn Firefox into a Multimedia Center: Fire.fm, VideoSurf Videos at a Glance and Crap, I Missed It!
Following our report on how to use Double Vision to watch videos or browse the web directly in your work stuff, I present to you a couple of add-ons and one web service that will aid your search for music, videos and TV shows or movies. Even if you are the kind of person that wants to work while at your work place, you will appreciate having some soothing music playing in the background, watching an amusing movie during your break, or getting a gentle reminder not to miss your favorite show when you get home.
Fire.fm, which won the Extended Firefox 3 contest, grants you access to an impressively large music archive. You can listen to tracks composed by your favorite artist or band, discover new musicians or new genres, or see what other people (including your friends) are listening to. As the developers put it, “this is the ultimate add-on for the music junkie”.
Remember the time you tried to find a video you saw a while back but you simply could not locate it? Or the time you thought you found the video you were looking for but it turned out it wasn’t and you wasted all that time looking at the wrong video? VideoSurf Videos at a Glance will put a stop to all that simply because it provides a video summary, it goes through the most important scenes in the video you are about to watch, and just like YouTube’s deep link feature it allows you to skip to a particular moment or scene. VideoSurf Videos at a Glance offers support for Google, YouTube, Yahoo!, and FriendFeed.
Crap, I Missed It! is an online service that performs one very simple task: it informs you when it is time to watch your favorite TV show, when the blockbuster movie you were waiting for comes to a cinema near you, or when your favorite music band comes to town. There are other categories to choose from such as sports scores, currencies, and top internet items.
If you would like to get Fire.fm 1.2, a download location is available here.
If you would like to get VideoSurf Videos at a Glance 0.23, a download location is available here.
