It is official: Yahoo!’s agreement to acquire Tumblr has gone through. The micro-blogging and social networking site now officially belongs to Yahoo!

About a month back Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer was glad to announce that the company she leads entered an agreement to purchase Tumblr. By spending about $1.1 billion in cash, Yahoo! got its hands on one of the fastest-growing media networks in the world. Just to put things in perspective, Tumblr hosts more than 105 million blogs, has more than 300 million monthly unique visitors, some 120,000 singups every day, and more than 900 posts per second.

So as I was saying, by purchasing Tumblr, Yahoo! got its hands on one of the fastest-growing media networks in the world. The plan for the acquisition is to integrate Yahoo!’s personalization technology and search infrastructure into Tumblr and to hopefully grow Yahoo!’s audience by 0% and increase traffic by about 20%.

The amusing part when Marissa Marissa Mayer announced Tumblr’s acquisition is that she promised not to screw things up.

“We promise not to screw it up’” she said via the official Yahoo! Blog that that is now hosted on Tumblr. “In terms of working together, Tumblr can deploy Yahoo!’s personalization technology and search infrastructure to help its users discover creators, bloggers, and content they’ll love. In turn, Tumblr brings 50 billion blog posts (and 75 million more arriving each day) to Yahoo!’s media network and search experiences. The two companies will also work together to create advertising opportunities that are seamless and enhance user experience.”

About a month after announcing the agreement to acquire Tumblr, Marissa Mayer announced that the deal went through and consequently Tumblr officially belongs to Yahoo! Mayer once again explained that Tumblr will continue to function as a separate business and that David Karp will continue to lead it as its CEO. Tumblr’s product roadmap, team, and mission will not be affected by the acquisition.
