Following the news that Apple in the future might give the iPhone video recording and conferencing capabilities, let’s stay in this audiovisual area and report on TubeStick, the hardware TV tuner for the iPhone. Unlike Ustream, the iPhone app that live streams videos on your iPhone, the Equinux developed TubeStick is a collection of hardware components that will allow you to watch TV shows and movies directly on the iPhone’s 3.5 inch display.

“The TubeStick works out of the box. Everything you need is there: a TV receiver, the matching white mini-antenna, an adaptor for external antennas and a USB extension cable. TubeStick is also delivered with The Tube, the modern TV software for your Mac. Its minimalist design, sleek, white exterior and clean lines fit into the Mac universe perfectly. Each TubeStick is designed in Bavaria,” says Equinux.

Alternatively you might want to use LiveStation, a free piece of software that allows you to watch live streaming TV stations and listen to online radio directly onto your Mac OS X or Windows desktop.

Moving on, if you are the proud owner of an iPod touch and using it in your sniper target practice is getting old, perhaps you would like to turn it into an iPhone – and by that I mean allow it to make phone calls and send out text messages. This is made possible because the Jajah developed iPhone app (which will be licensed to wireless and non-wireless operators as a “white label” service) uses VoIP, not a carrier’s network. The downside is that you will need a Wi-Fi connection; the upside is that WeFi can help with that.

Jajah CEO, Trevor Healy comments: “Millions of people around the world already have an iPod touch in their pocket. With JAJAH's solution, any company can turn their customers' iPod touch into a fully functioning mobile phone. The device is particularly popular amongst students, who live in a world where Wi-Fi access is always available and, like everyone, they are looking to save costs, so this is a perfect solution.”
