Immensely popular social networking site Facebook has announced that it has yet another instant personalization partner, mainly TripAdvisor.com, the world's largest travel site that presents unbiased hotel reviews, photos and travel advice for hotels and vacations. What does this mean? It means that Facebook will personalize your TripAdvisor experience if you visit the travel site while logged into your Facebook account.

“When you're planning a vacation, you can't control the weather or flight schedules, but luckily you do have a say in where you stay, where you eat and the activities you do. Facebook has partnered with TripAdvisor to help you tap your friends' travel experiences and plan the perfect trip. We hope these new social features on TripAdvisor help you make the most of your holiday travel plans and future vacations,” announced Tiffany Chang Black who works with Facebook's strategic partners

By using your public information and list of Facebook friends, TripAdvisor will present a customized version of the site to each Facebook user that visits it. Facebook users will see their friends’ reviews, a map showing places your friends have visited, and a list of their most popular destinations.

Say you want to go on a trip and you’re doing a bit of research on TripAdvisor. If you’re logged into your Facebook account while researching a destination, you will see friends' reviews first.

Say you don’t know where you want to go; you want to go someplace, but you just don’t know where. If you’re logged into your Facebook account and visit TripAdvisor, you will see your friends’ most popular destinations and a world map with all the places friends have said they've been.

Here’s a screenshot showing how your TripAdvisor experience will be personalized by using Facebook info.

TripAdvisor is only the latest instant personalization Facebook partner. Here are the others:
  • Docs.com – based on Microsoft Office 2010, Docs.com allows users to create, edit, and share Office documents with all their Facebook friends or with the world.
  • Pandora – the personalized internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites.
  • Yelp – the social networking, user review, and local search web site.
  • Rotten Tomatoes - film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes displays recommendations based on your likes and ratings, the top movies your friends are enjoying, and likes, ratings and comments posted on Facebook by your friends.
  • Bing – Microsoft’s search engine includes Facebook info in its search results.
  • Scribd – the social reading and publishing site displays personalized reading recommendations based on the things your Facebook friends are sharing, the things you liked on Facebook, and based on your personal interests.
