Cerulean Studios, the company behind the multiprotocol instant messaging app Trillian, has announced the fact that it is moving on with the development of its software application Trillian Astra (or Trillian 4.0 if you prefer) and making the Beta version available to the general public. The development of the software has not reached another milestone because Trillian Astra has been in Beta since October 2008; it’s just that you can now freely download the software without having to go through the process of registering for a download key.

“As we progress towards the gold release of Trillian Astra, we have removed the token requirement from the download. You may now freely download the latest Trillian Astra beta from our download page. Most of the major server issues have been addressed and many major bugs have been squashed, but we’re still busy fixing the remaining bugs! We will continue to address issues as they are reported and will be releasing new builds every week or two with our latest batch of fixes,” explained Cerulean Studios.

Cerulean Studios, who has been working on Astra for about 3 years now, plans to make the multiprotocol instant messaging app available for multiple platforms; besides Trillian Astra for Windows, the company will also roll out Trillian Astra for Mac OS X, Trillian Astra for iPhone and Trillian Astra for Web. This is certainly good new since Trillian 3 provided support for Windows only; the catch is that for the time being only Trillian Astra Beta for Windows has become publicly available and I am not aware of a specific release data for the other Astra versions.

So if you are running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and even the Release Candidate of Windows 7, wait no more and download Trillian Astra Beta. The
