A new security software application meant to protect enterprise Mac OS X users from various online threats has been launched by Trend Micro, company that specializes in providing network antivirus and internet content security software. The software in question is called Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 and is meant to be used by companies which use the Windows and Mac platform in their IT environment.

As you would expect, Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 will protect Mac OS X corporate users from all sorts of nasties, starting with viruses or spyware and moving up to blended threats and even platform-independent web-based attacks.

For over a decade now, Trend Micro has provided a high level of endpoint security to corporate customers via Trend Micro OfficeScan Client/Server. Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 is meant to integrate with Trend Micro OfficeScan Client/Server and its extensible and unique plug-in architecture that makes it easy to manager Mac desktops, laptops and servers via the same Web console used to manage Windows clients and servers.

General Manager for the Enterprise Business Unit with Trend Micro, Thomas Miller, commented: “Cross platform Web-based threats and phishing attacks exist, regardless of the operating system and as more enterprises adopt multiple platforms, they need flexible security that adapts to their needs. Trend Micro has been conducting extensive OS X threat research for over seven years and is currently the only vendor protecting the Mac against native and cross platform Web-based threats.”

Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 highlights:
- Available as a standalone security solution or as a plug-in to OfficeScan.
- Group policy management of up to 1,000 Mac endpoints within OfficeScan.
- Cocoa UI
- Location aware web reputation policies
- Protects the Mac OS X operating system and Windows virtual machines.
- Enhanced manual scan performance that uses the Quick Scan feature.
