Trend Micro, security company whose mission is to develop, deliver and support the most flexible and customizable internet security solutions to address the ever-changing threats on the Web, has recently announced that it entered a partnership with Facebook, the incredibly popular social network that needs no introduction.

There are more than 900 million users on Facebook and the simple truth of the matter is that they need to be kept safe and secure. That is why Facebook launched a new security initiative to keep its millions of users safe and that is why Trend Micro joined Facebook’s initiative. The overall goal here is for Facebook and Trend Micro to work together to protect the users from all the threats that are out there, targeting them.

One of the threats that frequently target Facebook users are survey scams. The bad guys take advantage of trending topics, such as the fake news that Justin Bieber stabbed a fan, and use them to come up with survey scams. The scam works like this: the unsuspecting user is lured to a malicious site, asked to disclose sensitive information in exchange for a bogus prize, redirected to other malicious sites.

As part of their partnership, Facebook and Trend Micro will work together to protect the users from survey scams and other types of threats. Trend Micro will provide its Smart Protection Network to Facebook so it can use it to protect the users. The Trend Micro Smart Protection Network blocks survey scams and protects against other threats commonly found on the social network.

Also as part of the Facebook-Trend Micro partnership, a 6-months valid free copy of Titanium Security Essentials will be provided to Windows users in the US, Canada, Britain, and Australia and a free copy of Smart Surfing will be provided to Mac users in the aforementioned countries. To get the free copy that is valid for 6 months, you need only like the Fearless Web page and visit the new AV Marketplace to download a copy.
