Trend Micro Introduces New Mobile Security Solution for Android

Earlier this month Trend Micro, company that specializes in providing network antivirus and internet content security software, announced the release of a new mobile security solution meant to protect the Google-developed Android mobile operating system. The new mobile security solution in question is called Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition and is meant to protect Android-powered smartphones as well as Android-powered tablets.

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition has several security features to offer. It can do the following:

- Block threats while the Android user surfs the web, threats such as bank scams.
- Block unwanted calls and text messages, block websites that are inappropriate for children to view.
- Help the Android user locate a lost device by displaying the device’s location on Google Maps. Is can also help the user remotely lock or remotely wipe a lost device.
- Protect the Android user from malicious apps. It features a free app scanner that scans apps and ensures the user doesn’t install malicious apps on the device.

"We believe mobile users need to be protected against malicious applications. To help protect as many people as possible and stifle criminal attempts to steal personal and financial information we are offering our anti-malware scanner for free." said Carol Carpenter, General Manager, Consumer Business at Trend Micro.

“With over 200,000 devices currently protected with prior or Beta versions of the solution, and Trend Micro's history of protecting mobile platforms since the middle of last decade. We are confident in our ability to provide a range of solutions that enable people to live out their digital lives in a safe and secure fashion,” added Carpenter.

If you would like to get Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition, you can grab it from the Android Market and from other major retail stores. The app scanner which protects against malicious apps is offered free of charge; the other features, like the option to locate a lost device, are only free to try. Android users can use the premium features free of charge for a period of 30 days.
