Top 3 April Fools Best News of the Day

As you are very much aware, today is the 1st of April, the day when you have an official excuse to pull off a prank on one of your coworkers, to trick your friends and close ones and to publish ridiculous news articles online. While we here at FindMySoft did not publish an April Fools article of our own (or did we?), we gathered here some of the best articles on the web that are obviously not real.

By far the best of them all is the TorrentFreak report that Warner Bros will be purchasing Swedish torrent tracker The Pirate Bay. This decision on Warner’s part apparently came after it realized that it has no chances of winning the trial against The Pirate Bay (detailed report on the trial here) and the best option would be to go ahead and purchase the torrent site.

“After years of hostility, lawsuits, police raids and heated invective between the two groups, the Pirate Bay has today announced they have settled their differences with US media conglomerate Warner Bros. The largest BitTorrent tracker has sold out to Hollywood and the two have agreed a deal,” says TorrentFreak in a more detailed article which you can view here.

My second favorite news bit of the day comes from Sophos’ Graham Cluley: apparently Sophos, company that specialized in providing security software solutions, has detected “the Shatner virus” (as in William Shatner, Captain Kirk from the Star Trek series).

“Security and control firm Sophos has discovered that hackers have successfully infected an orbiting communications satellite with a virus, and are interfering with television broadcasts. The Far Polo L1 satellite, placed in geostationary orbit to broadcast TV programs to a global audience, appears to have been infected by a virus known as W32/Shatner. Under the control of sci-fi obsessed hackers, the Shatner virus is embedding subliminal images related to Star Trek into popular television programs such as "The Simpsons", "Friends" and "Doogie Howser MD" as they are beamed down to viewers on Earth, says Graham Cluley in a blog post here (accompanied by a very serious looking video presentation of the event).

My third favorite article of the day comes from Opera. The article is entitled “Introducing Opera Face Gestures” and comes in at number 3 on my list simply because this April Fools has the potential to someday become a very geeky, but very interesting feature. The article shows how you can control Opera by using face gestures. The image depicting these gestures (see below) is more informative than funny, but the video presentation included in the article (see here) is hilarious.

An honorable mention goes to Alex Chitu for his “3-in-1 Google” article which says that Google will replace the “I’m Feeling lucky” tab with “Yahoo! Search” and “Live Search.” This article seemed so much like the real deal it almost had me fooled.
