Is that really her, or did someone create a fake Tinder account for [celebrity name]? Well, with the introduction of Verified Profiles, you’ll know if [celebrity name] really is on Tinder or not

Tinder recently rolled out Verified Profiles for celebrities, athletes, and public figures. If you see a verified symbol on the profile, it means that Tinder checked it out and the profile is real.

It’ all too easy to create an account for a celebrity and make fun of people who would like to get in touch with that celebrity. I went with the “make fun” scenario, but the truth is that things could go a lot worse than that.

Here’s an example: back in 2013, a 35-year-old man from the UK got a 14-year prison sentence because he posed as Justin Bieber on various social networks and tricked children as young as 9 into stripping in front of the webcam.

As I was saying, it’s all too easy to create a fake celebrity account. That’s why Twitter, Instagram or Facebook feature verified badges on real celebrity accounts. The little check mark attests that the account holder is the person they claim to be and not some trickster.

Tinder too features a little check mark, because it recently introduced Verified Profiles for celebrities, athletes, and public figures. If you see the verified symbol on a celebrity’s Tinder profile, it means it’s the real deal.

The verified symbol is a little blue check mark that looks like this.

“Tinder: it’s how people meet. Each day, 26 million matches are made on Tinder, and we do our best to keep those matches real” says the official Tinder blog.

I have to remind you that earlier this year, tinder introduced Passport for the paid Tinder Plus, a feature that lets you connect with people from all over the world, not just from your current location.
