You have a Windows Mobile-powered smartphone and you are looking for an original and interesting way to lock down your device’s screen? What about a simple and effective way of performing screen capture tasks directly on your device, no desktop connection required? If that is the case then Throttle Lock and CapSure, which come free of charge, are the programs for you.

Locking the screen of your Windows Mobile smartphone does not provide anything too interesting; the same conventional key press is used every time, which can be a drag. Throttle Lock comes with the “wow” factor by using a “pattern based screen lock”. What this means is that in order to unlock your smartphone you must use your finger or stylus to draw a pattern of choice on a grid.

When the device is locked down, you will still be able to view the basics: clock, signal strength, battery. Throttle Lock is compatible with Windows Mobile versions 5 though 6.1, but in order to use it you must comply with the following prerequisites: Net.CF 2.0 or 3.5 installed, 340 KB of storage space, 1 MB of free memory.

CapSure on the other hand allows you to capture the image currently displayed on your smartphone’s display. You can capture a specific app from task list, you can capture automatically at certain intervals of time, and you can watch the screen captures in a built-in thumbnail viewer. CapSure does not have to be installed and provides support for BMP, GIF and JPG formats.

In related Windows Mobile news, you should know that you can chat with your friends and monitor your Skype, Yahoo!, or MSN account thanks to Fring, you can browser the web with the milestone release of Fennec, and you can sync your Calendar and Gmail contacts with Google Sync.
