Opera Software, the company behind the innovative Opera web browser has just announced the release of Opera 10.10 as a final, stable software application. That is good news for Opera users, but here comes one better: Opera Unite is a part of Opera 10.10. It will allow you to turn your computer into a web server; instead of just receiving data, you will also be able to send data out there.

For example you can share 10GB of photos by using nothing else but the Opera 10.10 browser. Or you can stream your music library to a mobile phone, game console or to another computer. Opera Software is so excited about the release that it is asking users to reinvent the web: “To mark this release, Opera is inviting the world to join our journey to reinvent the Web. By wrapping both a Web browser and a Web server into one package, Opera Unite challenges the conventional, semi-private methods of sharing the content that really matters to people everywhere,” announced Opera.

As a matter of fact, Opera Software is so excited that it will announce one Opera Unite application per day. This whole week it will announce one Opera Unite application per day.

Back in October Opera launched a challenge to developers all over the world: come up with a properly good Opera Unite application, and Opera will award you a prize. The competition went something like this. Developers have a whole week to come up with a decent Opera Unite application; Friday is the last day when they can submit the application. To do so they need only sign into their Opera account and upload the application. Over the weekend the Opera team will go over the apps and on Monday it will announce who won gift certificates equal in value to a new mobile phone or a Nintendo Wi.

But this week is special, Opera announced : “instead of announcing only one new application [this] week, we're going all out and announcing a new Opera Unite application every day, starting this Monday and ending Friday! You can submit your application at any time during this period, for review. Contest rules from our developer challenge still apply, but we will be flexible on this area. We recommend everyone to submit applications, even if they are in alpha- or beta stage." So keep an eye out for new apps on this page .
