The iPhone 3G S Is Hot, So Hot Apple Warns You About It

Amongst all Apple developed smartphones, the iPhone 3G S is the one device that can boast about supporting all of the iPhone OS 3.0’s features – I am leaving aside the fact that you could send and receive MMS but AT&T does not provide support for it yet. But it seems that the iPhone 3G S has yet another feature we did not know about – it can toast bread. I say “yet another feature” because we recently reported that the iPhone 3G S has a hidden “annoy the dog feature” Apple did not know about.

Getting back to the toast bread feature, recent reports have it that the iPhone 3G S can get so hot that it can be dangerous to your wellbeing. It seems that Apple is aware of this fact and has even issued a warning:

“If the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:
- The device stops charging
- Display dims
- Weak cellular signal
- Temperature warning screen appears with the message "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it"


What Apple advises you to do is use the device in places where the temperature is between 32º to 95º F or 0º and 35º C and store the device in places where the temperature is between -4º to 113º F or -20º and 45º. Please note that very low or very high temperatures may cause the iPhone to stop functioning or may shorten battery life.

There are certain situations that might trigger the Temperature warning message to appear. Like for example if you leave your iPhone in your car, it is a hot day, and the sunlight hits your car directly. Or when you leave your iPhone exposed to direct sunlight for large amounts of time. Even if you are in a shaded location, using resource-hungry apps on a hot day for a longer period of time might trigger the warning message as well.
