The Yahoo! Facebook Love Story Continues: Comment, Like from within Yahoo! Mail

Yahoo!’s Vice President of Communities, Jim Stoneham announced that in the first half of 2010 Yahoo! will be deeply integrating Facebook Connect across its properties – he made the announcement back in December 2009. Until now we’ve already seen the results of this effort to make Yahoo! more Facebook-friendly.

For example the option to add the email addresses of all your Facebook friends to your Yahoo! Contacts list was rolled out not too long ago (see more on this topic here). This functionality makes it easy to stay in touch with the people you care about.

Also as part of the effort to make Yahoo! more Facebook-friendly, the Yahoo! Mail team recently announced that it rolled out the option to update your Facebook status directly from Yahoo! Mail. Also, when you receive an email from one of your Facebook friends, you’ll be able to see that friend’s Facebook profile photos. The only catch is that this functionality has been rolled out to “select countries.”

The Yahoo! Mail has now announced one other new cool feature:

You can now comment or ‘Like’ Updates that you see on the What’s New page in Yahoo! Mail. Say, for example, that your friend rates a movie on Yahoo! Movies. Now by clicking on ‘Like’, you can show your approval. A different friend may see that you Like it and want more information. By clicking Comment, a text box opens up where he can share his thoughts or questions on the Update,” explained Software Engineer with Yahoo! Mail, Tony Cheng.

The features mentioned above by Tony Cheng are available to users on the All New Yahoo! Mail – this means users all over the world. This week the features will be rolled out to Yahoo! Mail Classic users as well.

Concerned about the privacy aspect? You need not be? The user has full control of what he puts out there, full control of what he shares. If you don’t want others to see something, click ‘Remove’ in the ‘Like’ bubble or click the ‘X’ in the comment bubble to remove that item.
