The 3rd edition of The Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest, which for 2012 featured an “Inspired by Linux” theme, has come to an end. Out of the about 90 people who submitted their designs as part of the competition, 5 finalists were selected. And out of those finalists, two Linux supporters were chosen as the contest’s winners.

1st place in the 2012 Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest goes to Brian Beck, who came up with the “Inspired by Linux Arrow” T-shirt design you can view below. As 1st place winner, The Linux Foundation rewards Brian with $2,000 for airfare, hotel and admission to a LinuxCon event of his choice. He can choose between LinuxCon North America (San Diego, Aug. 26 - 29, 2012) and LinuxCon Europe (Barcelona, Nov. 5-7, 2012).

“I'm very excited to use, support, promote and market Linux and the Open Source mindset to others. This helps me reach a larger audience!” said Brian Beck, Instructional Technology Specialist for the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.

2nd place in the 2012 Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest goes to Sabrina Aqil and her “Freedom Lifts Us Up” T-shirt design. Second place in the contest earns Sabrina $1,000 that she must so to attend LinuxCon North America or LinuxCon Europe. Here’s a look at Sabrina’s design.

  • Design description: The design highlights the benefits coming off the freedom that Linux brings to us, opposite to the obstacles put by closed software and patents that slow down our progress towards a better society.

“Thank you and Linux Foundation immensely, for creating and organizing the T-shirt Linux Competition. I had so much fun designing 'Freedom Lifts Us Up' and I hope it will help promote Linux because Linux deserves to be known better and run worldwide,” said Sabrina Aqil.

Brian and Sabrina’s winning designs will be printed and sold by The Linux Foundation in the Linux.com store. The money obtained from selling the T-shirts will go towards supporting the Linux operating system and The Linux Foundation, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, protecting, and advancing Linux.
