The Winners of Wolfram Alpha's Big Spikey on Campus Contest Are...
Earlier this month we were reporting that the team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, decided to give away some nice merchandise as part of a back to school promotion.
The Wolfram Alpha team announced at the time that it would give away Wolfram Alpha T-shirts, Wolfram Alpha mugs, and Wolfram Alpha apps via its Twitter account. Until the 15th of September, Wolfram Alpha ran daily challenges (sometimes you had to retweet something, other times you had to answer a question) and gave one lucky Twitter follower a nice prize. But that’s not all.
The team also announced the Big Spikey on Campus photo competition. This competition went something like this: cut out the Spikey, take a picture with the Spikey on campus, submit the pic and wait to see if you won. The news is that the Wolfram Alpha team has selected the winner of the Grand Prize (an iPad 2) and the 10 runners-up (they got a Wolfram Alpha T-shirt and a Course Assistant App)
The winner of the Grand Prize, an iPad 2, is the one who came up with the picture below (it’s a Wolfram Alpha-inspired sine graph).
The 10 runners-up who will get a T-shirt and a Course Assistant App of their choice are as follows.
Keen eyed viewers certainly noticed that there are only 9 images above. The 10th runner-up is the creator of this photo essay.
The Wolfram Alpha team thanked everyone who tool part in the Big Spikey on Campus competition and added that the winners will be contacted via Twitter or Tumblr. If you did not win anything this time, perhaps you will be luckier next time. There will be other contests and giveaways, the Wolfram Alpha team concluded.
Additional information on Wolfram Alpha is available here.
