Everybody seems to be getting on the iPhone app bandwagon these days, including his holiness Pope Benedict XVI. If you are a devoted catholic then you are surely aware of the fact that Pope Benedict XVI launched a YouTube channel last year (link here); now there is one other option at your disposal so that you can keep up to date on what the Vatican is doing – an iPhone app. The app in question is called H2Onews (I kid you not) and will show up in the App Store in the new futures.

"The H2Onews application for the iPhone and iPod Touch brings you timely, insightful news about the life of the Church in the world. In collaboration with the Vatican Television Center and Vatican Radio, H2Onews connects you with video and audio news from the Vatican. Through H2Onews, the first video news application dedicated to the Catholic world, you can follow the travels and speeches of Benedict XVI, as well as key international ecclesiastical events,” says the official presentation of the app.

The iPhone and iPod Touch app features support for the following languages: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, and Chinese. The news it provides comes in 3 formats: video, audio and text.

The app is not yet available in the App Store, but if you would like to be informed when the H2onews app becomes available, you can submit your email here and you will receive an email when the app is rolled out.

Now if you are already on Facebook and would like to follow Pope Benedict XVI and the Vatican, there is a Facebook app that you can use. It is called Pope2You and its official description goes like this: “The application Pope2You for Facebook, lets you receive the messages of Pope Benedict XVI through the most important social network of the world. So you can meet the Pope on Facebook, listen to his words, see his pictures, receive his messages of congratulations through "virtual postcards". The postcards can be sent to your "friends" on Facebook and the application can be shared with anyone. So we can create a close sharing network around our Pope,” says the official presentation of the app.
