The New Functionality of SharePoint Server 2010

There are good news to report about SharePoint Server 2010. First of all you should know that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Beta will be released this November. The second piece of good news is that Microsoft finally revealed some details about he functionality it will provide. There is one third piece of good news: Steve Ballmer announced that the release of the Sharepoint Server 2010 Beta will be accompanied by MS Office 2010 Beta.

Steve Ballmer comments: "SharePoint 2010 is the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date. When paired with Microsoft Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business.

Without any further ado, here is what you can expect to get from Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010:
  • New Ribbon UI (user interface)
The UI has been redesigned with two thoughts in mind: 1. to make the end user more productive; 2. to make it easier to customize SharePoint sites.
  • Office Integration
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 is deeply integrated with the company’s Office productivity suite via social tagging, backstage integration and document life-cycle management.
  • Rich Media Support
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 comes with built-in support for rich media (video, audio, Silverlight)
  • New Web Content Management Features
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 provides built-in accessibility. Then there’s multilingual support, one-click page layout, the option to give anyone access to SharePoint Server sites.
  • Visual Studio 2010 with New Sharepoint Tools
The integration of SharePoint tools in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 is meant to provide developers with a better user experience. With access to the tools they are already familiar with, developers are given a premier experience.
  • Business Connectivity Services
These services let developers connect capabilities to line-of-business data or Web services in SharePoint Server and the Office client.
  • Rich APIS
  • SharePoint Online Has Enterprise Features
These features include Excel Services and InfoPath Forms Services
