We are halfway though the month of December, on the homestretch towards the end of the year. Mountain View-based search engine giant is eagerly anticipating New Years – just go over to Google.com and hit I’m feeling Lucky. Don’t type anything in the search bar, just go to the Google homepage (Google.com, not the localized versions), hit I’m Feeling Lucky and you’ll see an end of the year countdown timer (in seconds only).

As the year draws to a close, Google-owned video sharing site YouTube has made available to the public a list of the most watched YouTube videos and music videos. A list of the most popular searches users have made on YouTube has been released as well – there’s a worldwide list and a US list.


With 120+ million views, the most watched video on YouTube this year is Susan Boyle – Britain’s Got Talent. David After Dentist comes in second with 37+ million views and JK Wedding Entrance Dance takes the 3rd spot with 33+ million views.

The most watched music video on YouTube this year is PitBull – I Know You Want Me. The music video managed to get more than 82 million views. The 2nd and 3rd positions are taken by actress/singer Miley Cyrus with The Climb (64+ million views) and Party in the U.S.A. (54+ million views).

Now here are the fastest rising search terms on YouTube for the year of 2009 (the worldwide list):

1. January: inauguration
2. February: christian bale
3. March: the climb
4. April: susan boyle
5. May: pacquiao vs hatton
6. June: michael jackson thriller
7. July: michael jackson
8. August: usain bolt
9. September: kanye west
10. October: paranormal activity
11. November: bad romance
12. December: tiger woods

And here is the US list of fastest rising search terms on YouTube in 2009:

1. January: obama inauguration
2. February: on a boat
3. March: watchmen
4. April: susan boyle
5. May: pacquiao
6. June: michael jackson thriller
7. July: wedding
