As part of a Holiday Individual Membership Drive, new members of The Linux Foundation can win one of two $75 gift cards – they can spend the money on exclusive merchandise that reflects "geek culture".

In an effort to get more people to join its ranks, The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, announced that it is giving away two $75 gift cards as part of a Holiday Individual Membership Drive and promotion. Get an individual membership and you could win free money to spend on Linux.com Store T-shirts, hats, mugs and more.

Here are the main things you need to know about this topic, in a handy Q&A format.

When should I sign up?
You must sign up for an individual membership anytime until the 14th of December 2012.

Where can I get an individual membership?
Click this link and you will be directed to the webpage where you can sign up for a membership.

How much will I have to pay?
You will have to part with $99 for an individual membership; if you’re a student, you will have to pay less than that, mainly $25. Student members get the same benefits as individual members.

Why should I join?
First of all, because by joining The Linux Foundation you support the growth of Linux. Second of all, because there are several benefits to joining The Linux Foundation: discounts of up to 40% on purchases, an @Linux.com email address, and more. And last but not least, because you will be entered into a draw (official rules here) and you could win a $75 gift card that you can use in the Linux.com Store to purchase original T-shirts, hats, mugs and other exclusive merchandise.

“Individuals power Linux in more ways than one. It is individuals who write the code and submit patches. It is also individuals who help sponsor the world’s largest collaborative development project through individual membership at The Linux Foundation,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer services, The Linux Foundation. “The Holiday Individual Membership Drive offers people another opportunity to support the work of Linus Torvalds and the Linux operating system while scoring some additional perks this season.”
