The Linux Foundation: An Individual Membership Pays for Itself

In time for the winter holidays, The Linux Foundation is once again running its Biannual Membership Drive and is inviting Linux fans from around the world to get an individual membership. Getting a membership will set you back $99. Ah but you see, The Linux Foundation will give all new members $100 off Linux Foundation certification exams. This means that an individual membership pays for itself.

If the fact that it pays for itself isn’t reason enough to get an individual membership, here’s one more: you will help Free Geek, a nonprofit organization focused on reusing and recycling computer equipment that might otherwise end up as hazardous waste. Computers refurbished by Free Geek are granted to schools, community organizations and sold in the Free Geek thrift store. The Linux Foundation will donate $25 to Free Geek for each new member.

“Linux and collaborative development are the foundations for building new technologies. Increasing access to computers allows more people around the world to build the next major innovation with Linux and open source,” said Amanda McPherson, chief marketing officer at The Linux Foundation. “We’re happy to share a portion of this year’s dues with Free Geek.”

I remind you that The Linux Foundation donated $25 to Code.org when it ran its mid-year membership drive.
