Recently we’ve covered two applications for Bing Maps, the web mapping service provided as a part of Microsoft's Bing suite of search engines. The apps we’ve covered are Global Action Atlas by National Geographic and Piracy Watch by IDV Solutions.

But these aren’t the only apps to be recently added to the library of Bing Maps applications.
There are a few other apps you need to know about, mainly Gas Prices, Distance Calculator and Parking Finder.

Gas Prices
Thanks to this app you can use Bing Maps to find the cheapest gas price. The app presents gas prices within a 5 mile radius of where you’re searching. In the left hand side navigation pane you can see the name, address and price information for several gas stations. Clicking a pin on the map will provide access to the same information (name, address, price) plus the last date and time the information was updated.

Distance Calculator Map
Enter the point of departure and the destination and the Distance Calculator Map app and will tell you the distance between the two points. The app will tell you how many miles there are between point A and point B if you travel by airplane and if you decide to travel by car. Two flags will appear on the map – one represents the point of departure, the other represents the destination. You can take the destination flag and move it around. When you do so, the app will recalculate the distance.

The Distance Calculator Map App also works in Bird’s Eye and Streetside modes.

Parking Finder

The functionality this app provides is self-explanatory: it will help you find a place to park your car. Since the app was developed by BestParking.com, it features tons of info on parking lots around the US. When you click a pin on the map you will get contextual information such as address, hours, type of lot, what types of payment they accept, and a phone number. There are links to photos of the parking lot as well.
