After announcing the release of Skype Beta for Windows Phone, the now Microsoft-owned company announced that a completely revamped version of the GroupeMe app for Windows Phone has been rolled out to the public. In case you are not familiar with it, GroupeMe is a group messaging service that lets users stay in touch with others.

“GroupMe is the best way to chat with everyone you know. It's absolutely free, whether you're talking to a group of friends, or texting with one person. Best of all, it works on nearly every phone, via push or SMS. With GroupMe, it's easy to reach anyone, anytime, anywhere,” says the app’s official description.

The revamped GroupMe app, that would be version 3.0, offers the following new features to Windows Phone users:
  • For quick and easy access, pin groups to start (press and hold any chat -> select “pin to start” from the context menu).
  • Create a group for your family, friends, coworkers, and so on. Free group messaging works with all their phones.
  • Click the address book icon and add contacts to a group from your address book.
  • Take a pic or select an image from the photo gallery and share it with others.
  • Have a private one-on-one conversation with someone by tapping on that person’s avatar. Please note that the person you want to have a private conversation must also have the GroupMe app.
  • Featured brand partners to choose from.
  • Click “settings” and you can set your own avatar.
  • From the same settings screen you can switch to SMS-mode (useful when you have a bad data connection).

GroupMe 3.0 works with Windows Phone 7.5 or higher. The app is available for free download here.
The app is also available for BlackBerry, Android, and iOS. You can find out more about the app here.
