The current stable version of the Linux Mint operating system (OS) is Linux Mint 11 which carries the codename Katya. That is a word of Russian origin that is associated with the meaning “pure.” Before that there was Linux Mint 10 which carried the codename Julia – as in Gens Julia, one of Ancient Rome’s most ancient Patrician families and the gens of the famous Gaius Julius Caesar. And before that there was Linux Mint 9 which carried the codename Isadora, word of Greco-Latin origin that means “gift of Isis.

And I will stop here because I’m sure that Linux Mint fans do not need to be reminded what codenames their favorite OS carried. I will turn towards the future and I will report that the team behind Linux Mint announced what codename the upcoming Linux Mint 12 will carry. The codename of the upcoming Linux Mint 12 is, drum rolls please, Lisa. A preview of what Lisa will have to offer is available here.

Lets take the spotlight off the Linux Mint OS and put it on the Opera web browser. Opera fans will remember that the upcoming Opera 12 will carry the codename Wahoo – which is a “a scombrid fish found worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas. It is best known to sports fishermen, as its speed and high-quality flesh make it a prize game fish,” according to Wikipedia.

The current stable version of Opera is 11.5 codename “Swordfish.” Norwegian developer Opera Software recently announced that another version will be released ahead of Opera 12. And more to the point, Opera Software aims to update its browser to version 11.6 before version 12 is released.

The upcoming Opera 11.6 browser will carry the codename, drum rolls again, Tunny – that’s another name for tuna, and tuna is a very fast fish. Opera Software explained that “Tunny” will come with the following features:
  • A new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök)
  • A new version of Carakan
  • Full ECMAScript 5.1 support
  • CSS3 radial gradients
  • Support for HTML5 custom scheme and content handlers (new in this build)
  • New featherweight address field with bookmark star menu

An early snapshot of Opera 11.6 Tunny is already available for download. Click here for additional info.
