After having presented the TV that doesn’t work unless you smile and the smart lightbulb that plays music, it’s now time to present the alarm clock that makes coffee: Joshua Renouf’s 'The Barisieur.'

AVG Alarm Clock Xtreme Free for Fire Phone wakes you up by playing your favorite music and by getting you to solve some math problems. To wake you up gently, the app starts to play music, slowly increasing the volume. And to make sure you don’t hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, the app forces you to solve some math problems.

Smart lightbulbs ilumi and LighFreq can wake you up by turning on the lights. These lightbulbs can be controlled from your smartphone. So when the alarm goes off on your smartphone, the smart lightbulb turns on. ilumi can only turn on the light while LightFreq can turn on the light and also play some music.

Joshua Renouf takes a different approach with his Bariseur project. You don’t need music, math problems, or light to wake you up in the morning. What you need is a nice cup of coffee. And that is precisely what The Bariseur does – it is an alarm clock that makes coffee.

The Barisieur is an alarm clock and coffee brewer,” explains Joshua Renouf. “It eases the user into the day with the subtle movement of stainless steel ballbearings that boil the water through induction heating, accompanied by the smell of freshly brewed coffee. It encourages a ritual before going to sleep, signalling to the body and mind that it is time to unwind and relax. Living slow even when times are fast.”

The estimated price for The Barisieur is around £150 – £250. The device is not available on the market right now. But, according to Joshua Renouf, it will be. If you want to, you can join a mailing list and you will be notified when The Barisieur is available for purchase.
