Opera Software, the Norwegian software developer we all know to be behind the popular Opera web browser, has recently announced that it struck a deal with carrier Telenor to offer Telenor users in Montenegro free access to the web. Via the recently launched Telenor Klik service, Telenor mobile phone users in Montenegro have free access to the web – and they access it with Opera’s Opera Mini web browser.

To activate Telenor Klik, users need only send an SMS message to the number 1455 with the text “KLIK.” Telenor will reply with a message that says Klik has been activated; the message contains a link to download Opera Mini. Once the user installs Opera Mini on his mobile device, he will be able to browse the web for free – until the end of January 2011 that is. Yes, Telenor Klik is a limited-time promo that runs until the end of January, 2011.

“We believe access to the Web is a universal right, and, by offering Opera Mini as part of its Klik service, Telenor is bringing the Web closer to more people in Montenegro,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Telenor Montenegro customers will have the fastest web browsing experience possible, at a cheaper cost and at their convenience.”

“The mobile Web is a fast-growing phenomenon in Montenegro, which calls for constant development of new products services and, which will appeal to the growing customer’s surfing needs. That is why Telenor is always there to offer new, unique and innovative products to its customers, in order to satisfy all their communication needs and be their number one choice in everyday communication”, explained Christopher Laska, CEO Telenor.

Opera Mini is used by more than 71.2 million people across the world. The browser works with more than 3000 mobile phone models. It provides fast browsing speeds because it routes traffic through Opera serves and compresses it by up to 90%.
