System Requirements for Today's Most Popular Browsers

You will need a browser to surf the web, to access all the information that is available online. Before you rush to install a new browser on your system, make sure said system meets the system requirements to run the browser. Below you can check out the system requirements for the latest editions of the most popular browsers out there.

That would be Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Mozilla’s Firefox, Google’s Chrome, Opera Software’s Opera, and Apple’s Safari.


Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 System Requirements
  • Operating system – 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008. Windows XP is not supported by IE9.
  • Processor – at least a 1Ghz processor.
  • Memory – 512MB of RAM.
  • Disk space – between 70 and 200 MB of hard drive space, depending on your operating system.
  • Display – a monitor capable of at least 800x600 resolution.

Mozilla Firefox 12 System Requirements
  • Operating system – Windows (from Windows 7 down to Windows 2000), Mac OS X (from OS X 10.5 to 10.7), and Linux.
  • Processor - Pentium 4 or newer processor that supports SSE2 for Windows, Intel x86 processor for Mac.
  • Memory – at least 512MB or RAM.
  • Disk space – 200MB of hard drive space.

Google Chrome 19 System Requirements
  • Operating system – Windows (XP Service Pack 2 or newer, Windows Vista, Windows 7), Mac OS X (10.5.6 or later), Linux (Ubuntu 10.4, Debian 6, OpenSuse 11.3, Fedora Linux 14 or newer).
  • Processor – Intel Pentium 4 or better for Windows, Intel for Mac, Intel Pentium 3/Athlon 64 or later for Linux.
  • Memory – at least 128MB or ram.
  • Disk space – 100 MB of hard drive space.

Opera Software Opera 11.64 System Requirements
Operating system – Windows (from Windows 7 down to Windows 2000, Mac OS X (10.5 or newer), Linux (any recent edition).
Processor – at least Pentium II for Windows, Intel for Mac.
Memory – at least 128MB, a recommended 256MB of Ram.
Disk space – 100MB of hard drive space.

Apple Safari 5.1 System Requirements
  • Operating system – Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7)
  • Processor – At least a 500MHz Pentium-class processor.
  • Memory – at least 256MB of RAM.
