After recently announcing the release of Symantec System Recovery 2011 (formerly Backup Exec System Recovery; a tool that aims to solve the data, system, and application recovery challenges organizations face), the security software developer has now announced the release of Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5.

Previously known as Symantec Brightmail Gateway, Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5 offers efficient protection against spam and unwanted email. According to Symantec, Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5 blocks more than 99 percent of spam while integrating with DLP and encryption technologies to protect outbound messages. In Virus Bulletin’s VBSpam comparative antispam testing, Symantec’s tool consistently scores more than 99.5% when its spam protection capabilities are put to the test.

“We help companies of all sizes maintain the integrity of their sensitive information. Symantec Messaging Gateway keeps unwanted email out while protecting an organization’s outgoing communications. With the evolution in targeted attacks, such as advanced persistent threats, protecting proprietary business information is more important than ever,” commented Blake McConnell, Senior Director, Product Management, Symantec.

In a press release Symantec explained that organizations should get Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5 because it offers the following benefits:
- Properly good protection against unwanted emails.
- Organizations can customize the level of protection they get from Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5 based on their individual environments.
- Add-on option for Symantec Data Loss Prevention, a powerful data loss prevention solution
- Integrates with Symantec Messaging Encryption Gateway Edition and Symantec Content Encryption.
- Seamlessly integrates into Symantec Protection Center.

“Symantec is delivering new innovations in Symantec Messaging Gateway that can help large organizations address risks and streamline security operations. Integrating Symantec’s market-leading data loss prevention and encryption technologies with messaging security adds data security safeguards, while the Symantec Protection Center will help customers manage their security defenses with one combined view of security threats,” commented Jon Oltsik, Senior Principal Analyst, ESG.
