Symantec, company that specializes in providing antivirus, antispyware, and internet security software solutions, announced the launch of Norton Cybercrime Index, a new free tool that provides daily news alerts on the top threats and scams and thus helps users stay clear of unsafe sites, hijacked search terms, and scams.

Every day, billions of people surf the web to socialize, have a bit of fun, or work. Symantec explained that by launching the Norton Cybercrime Index, it wants to provide the billions of internet users with timely and relevant information on cybercrime risks around the world. By visiting the Norton Cybercrime Index internauts can find out which are today’s most dangerous sites, the most hijacked search terms, top scams, and much more.

“At its most basic, the Norton Cybercrime Index answers the question, 'What’s your online risk today?,' showing you the day’s risk rating and putting it in the context of highs and lows, much like a stock index would. However, with the Norton Cybercrime Index, when the number goes up, consumers are more at risk. The tool gives people one easy-to-understand visual for today’s level of online risk,” said Symantec in a press release.

The Norton Cybercrime Index can be accessed a variety of ways:
- You can visit the Norton Cybercrime Index site from your browser by clicking this link.
- You can visit the Norton Cybercrime Index mobile site by clicking here.
- You can get the Norton Cybercrime Index gadget for your desktop (Vista and Windows 7 only) by clicking here.
- You can get Norton 360 v. 5.0 here. This latest version provides quick access to Norton Cybercrime Index.

“Most of us go online daily to work, play, and socialize, and yet it’s one of the most dangerous activities we engage in, because there are so many threats lurking online,” said Adam Palmer, Norton Lead Cyber Security Advisor. “Norton fights cybercrime in a number of ways, including through education. Our goal is to have people add the Norton Cybercrime Index to their daily routine to get a clear understanding of the dangers that are threatening them online, and to take preventative action to avoid falling victim.”
