Swipe to Reply in Updated Twitter for Android and iOS App
The team behind popular social networking and micro-blogging site Twitter announced yesterday that the Twitter for Android and Twitter for iOS apps have been updated to version 3.1 and version 4.1 respectively. The updated apps have new functionality to boast about, chief among them being the new Swipe shortcut.
The Swipe shortcut, which is available in both the Android and iOS app, works like this: reply to, retweet, favorite, or share a tweet by simply swiping it. You can also view the Twitter user’s profile by swiping the tweet – and you do it all without leaving your timeline.
Another new bit in the Android and iOS Twitter app is the introduction of a confirmation alert for when you select “Find Friends.” The confirmation alert does a better job of explaining that you can find out which of your Friends are on Twitter by uploading your contacts’ email addresses and phone number.
Focusing on the iOS Twitter app alone, the updated app brings back the option to copy and paste the text of tweets and user profiles, the Share feature presents the option to tweet, copy or mail a link, the design of Direct Messages has been updated and the option to mark all DMs as read has returned, and the option to change the font size from the Settings -> Advanced menu has been added.
Apart from the new Swipe shortcut and the “Find friends” confirmation alert, the updated Twitter for Android for app adds support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Kindle Fire, and the Barnes & Noble NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet.
You can get the latest version of the official Twitter for Android app from the Android Market here.
