The good news that the iPhone 4S powered by iOS5 will be released later this month has been shadowed by the bad news that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died at age 56. He died on Wednesday, October 5th, at home with his family. The world lost the most celebrated person in technology and business on the planet.

Apple’s Board of Directors reacted by saying everyone on the board is deeply saddened to learn that Steve passed away and their hearts go out to Steve’s family and all the fans out there.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve,” said the Board of Directors in a statement.

Former COO (Chief Operations Officer) Tim Cook took over as Apple CEO (Chief Executive Officer) after Steve Jobs resigned in August. He reacted to Steve Jobs’ death by saying that “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.” He added that those who were fortunate enough to know and work with Steve “lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.”

Even though Steve Jobs is gone, his spirit will always be the foundation of the company he created. “No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much,” concluded Tim Cook.

Steve Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 and died at home with his family on October 5th, 2011. He was the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple. He was a visionary, an inventor, a highly successful entrepreneur who will be dearly missed.
