A new product that offers top notch protection against spyware and malware is being developed in partnership by Bitdefender and Safer-Networking, the makers of Spybot – Search and Destroy.

Safer-Networking, the company behind the Spybot – Search and Destroy spyware and adware removal product, entered an agreement with Bitdefender, company that develops award-winning antivirus and security software. As part of the agreement the two companies will create a new Spybot +AV software that efficiently protects against spyware and malware.

Spybot +AV aims to provide a high level of all-round protection and to do this it takes the best from the two companies that stand behind it. It takes spyware protection from Spybot and it takes cutting-edge antivirus protection from Bitdefender. On top of that, it addresses the problems that may arise from running antivirus alongside antispyware software. Two separate software products may lead to software conflicts - Spybot +AV nicely bundles the functionality you would expect to get from an antivirus and from an antispyware product.

As Bitdefender explained, Spybot +AV will come with the following features:
  • Safer-Networking’s antispyware technology
  • Bitdefender’s cutting-edge antivirus engine
  • On-demand virus scanning
  • Live antivirus updates
  • Support for multiple languages
  • Intuitive interface
  • Faster scan speeds.

“Bitdefender brings a whole new level of protection to our customers,” says Alec Darragh, chief operations officer of Safer-Networking. “We now have a product that is not only industry-leading in fighting spyware, but #1 in fighting all other forms of malicious software as well. Besides enhanced protection, Spybot +AV enhances convenience for users, who have all the online security they need with just one product.”

“Bitdefender welcomes the partnership with Safer-Networking, one of the pioneers of the anti-spyware industry,” says Peter Laakkonen, Bitdefender’s General Manager of OEM and Technology Licensing. “Combining Safer-Networking’s anti-spyware expertise with Bitdefender’s industry-leading anti-malware technology will create a powerful solution to protect users against all kinds of e-threats.”
