Spotify to Be Integrated Across all of Yahoo!
Spotify, the Swedish music streaming service that lets you listen to, discover, and share music with friends, and Yahoo!, company that needs no introduction, announced earlier this week that they entered a global content distribution an promotion agreement. As part of this agreement Spotify’s one demand music service will be integrated and promoted by Yahoo! on its Media Network. According to Yahoo!, its Media Network reaches more than 47% of the total worldwide internet audience – some 700 million unique users per month.
The first step Yahoo! will take as part of the agreement it struck with Spotify is to integrate the on demand music service with its own Yahoo! Music. Spotify thus becomes “a rich component of your Yahoo! Music experience.” After that Yahoo! will move on and integrate Spotify on all its other sites.
An app will also be released as part of this agreement. Yahoo! will create an app for Spotify, app that will feature Yahoo! original entertainment content. Spotify’s 10+ million users will thus have access to Yahoo! content.
Spotify CEO & Founder had the following to say about the agreement:
“At Spotify we want to light up the Web with music and as Yahoo!’s global music partner we’re able to reach their massive audience. We are really excited about the new Yahoo! leadership team and thrilled to partner with them to build great experiences around high quality content.”
Interim Yahoo! CEO Ross Levinsohn had this to say:
“Delivering compelling premium experiences across screens is core to our mission at Yahoo!. Spotify is the leader in the digital music field and together we can provide the “soundtrack What Daniel and his team are doing is changing an industry, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them.”
A credentials scandal forced former Yahoo! CEO Scott Thompson to step down in May. Yahoo! named Ross Levinsohn as interim CEO until a proper replacement for Thompson will be found. Read more about this topic here.
