Nintendo was glad to announce that Splatoon, its third-person and squid-based shooter video game for the Wii U, has surpassed 1 million in sales.

Nintendo was also glad to announce that thousands of new players join the game every day. This is where I have to point out that Splatoon can be played in single and multiplayer mode.

“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime.

“This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners,” he continued.

As I was saying at the start of this article, Nintendo announced that Splatoon surpassed 1 million in sales. Care to find out how well Splatoon did in your region? Nintendo made sure to point out that:
  • More than 476,000 physical and digital units were sold in the Americas.
  • More than 368,000 physical and digital units were sold in Japan.
  • More than 230,000 physical and digital units were sold in Europe.
  • 20,000 physical and digital units were sold in Australia and New Zealand.
Splatoon can be played in single player mode. Here’s a video that showcases this mode.

But it’s more exciting to play Splatoon in multiplayer mode. Teams of four can fight one against another, the goal being to splatter the majority of the playing area with the team’s colorful ink. Splattering the playing area comes with a cool advantage: players can transform into squids and swim through pools of their own ink to move faster or maneuver up walls to access hard-to-reach areas.

Here’s a short video that showcases Splatoon’s multiplayer mode.
