In Apple’s own words, the iPhone 7 is "the best, most advanced iPhone ever, packed with unique innovations that improve all the ways iPhone is used every day."

Indeed, it is the most powerful iPhone to date, and it’ll surely beat all its predecessors in a speed test. But what if we were to pit it against the competition’s flagships. How would the iPhone 7 fair against Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Note 7? Let’s find out!

Speed Test 1 – iPhone 7 (and 7 Plus) vs. Galaxy S7 (and Note 7)

This test comes from Austin Evans, full time geek and tech video producer. The test went through the following steps:
  • Geekbench 4 to test the CPU power – the iPhone 7 got a higher score than the Galaxy S7, and the iPhone 7 Plus got a higher score than the Galaxy Note 7.
  • GFXBench to test the graphics – the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus scored higher FPS than the Galaxy S7 and Note 7.
  • Heat camera – the Galaxy S7 got a bit hotter than the iPhone 7, but not within reason for a smartphone.
  • Games – the iPhone 7 was a bit faster than the Galaxy S7 at loading games.

Conclusion: the iPhone 7 took the lead in all the tests that Austin Evans performed.

Speed Test 2 – iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy Note 7

This second test comes from PhoneBuff’s David Rahimi, who had a different way of testing the two flagships: timing how long it took them to launch a series of apps.

Conclusion: as expected, the iPhone 7 was faster.

Speed Test 3 – iPhone 7 vs. All Other iPhones

As I mentioned at the start of this article, Apple’s iPhone 7 is the most powerful iPhone to date. How much more powerful is it, compared to its predecessors? EverythingApplePro decided to find out by running a bunch of tests on all iPhones ever made, from the original iPhone all the way up to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

The test went through the following steps:
  • Startup – find out which iPhone takes the least time to start up.
  • Benchmarks – find out which iPhone gets the highest score in different benchmarks.
  • Decibel output – find out which iPhone has the loudest speakers.
  • Heat test – find out which iPhone gets the hottest.
  • Touch ID – find out which iPhone unlocks the fastest.
  • Camera – find out which iPhone takes the best photos.

Conclusion: the iPhone 7 is indeed better than its predecessors.
